New Rector
Rev'd Katrina Dykes
The Benefice of Chew Valley South
Hello!
I am Katrina and I am now your new Rector!
I am married to Phil and we have two grown up children – Iain and Jonah who is married to Becca. Our grandson arrived safely at the same time as we moved into the Rectory in Blagdon! We also have two beautiful border collies – Shadow and Talisker.
We moved from Suffolk where I was rector of nine rural churches. We have been looking forward to returning to an area we know from when we were at Trinity College, Bristol, back in the 1980s! The county is also familiar to us as Phil grew up in Taunton and we have been back to visit friends and family many times over the years.
I have spent most of my adult life, working with young people and children in a variety of contexts as a youth worker and a school chaplain, so I am keen to get to know the schools in the benefice and supporting the staff and getting to know the children and families.
We enjoy long country walks, pub lunches and the occasional dram of malt whisky. Favourite holiday spots are The Highlands & Islands of Scotland, Exmoor and occasionally Vancouver to visit my brother. We also love playing board games and our family film nights which we started in Covid lock down. Since then we have watched over 200 films ranging from the 1930s to the present day and take our review nights very seriously!
We are very much looking forward to meeting you all in person.
See you soon!

LOOK OUT FOR
Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
One of the responsibilities of the church PCC is managing and maintenance of the churchyard.
Within that context, there are a number of potential projects that could be done by Duke of Edinburgh students based in our churchyard e.g. carrying our surveys for possible rewilding of parts of the churchyard, carrying our surveys on the flora and fauna already living in the churchyard and how we might be able to increase the populations, mapping churchyard graves etc.
If there are any students out there who think they might be interested in exploring any such voluntary project please contact Helen.* The Duke of Edinburgh award is not just about hiking!!

ABOUT
A Thriving Congregation in the Chew Valley
St Michael's is open to worshippers of all ages and backgrounds. We lead our congregation in worship, deepening the connection to God, understanding the teachings of Christ, and ultimately to a vibrant faith.
We have a long, proud history for over 900 years of serving the people of Compton Martin. Through the dedication of our leadership, staff and volunteers, we are committed to the teachings of Jesus Christ, and are here to spread His message. Contact us today to find out more about becoming part of the St Michael's.
The new Benefice of Chew Valley South means that we, as a Parish (St Michael’s, Compton Martin), already joined with All Saints North Mendip Parish (St Andrew’s, Blagdon and St Bartholomew’s, Ubley) will, in due course, formally join with the United Parishes of West and East Harptree and Hinton Blewett to form a new Benefice called Chew Valley South.
